One of the most devious tricks that Dark Souls games can play is the inclusion of Illusory Walls. These walls look just like any other in the game, and can sometimes even look like other objects too - but striking or rolling into them will reveal their true nature, as the illusion fades to reveal secrets. This will detail every illusory wall found in the game, and what secrets they hide - listed by area. The first illusory wall you're likely to encounter in the game is found in Farron Keep - located in the same area where the Watchdogs of Farron Covenant is found.
After heading down from the Keep Ruins Bonfire, look for a large column that's part of the great bridge above, and climb the long ladder up to a balcony wrapping around the column, with the Old Wolf of Farron inside. Heading right around the balcony, go up some stairs and look for a sealed the illusory wall - and strike it to reveal a path inside to a corpse on a ledge. While this wall in the Catacombs of Carthus hides more of a shortcut than an actual secret - as the items on either side can be found via alternate paths - the corridors leading to them are oft missed if you don't look carefully.
To find it, head across the first bridge in the catacombs, and hop down to the left onto a platform below. Inside is a corridor leading to a ladder connecting above, and a seemingly dead end on the right. Strike the wall at the end to reveal the secret, where a red-eyed Carthus Skeleton guards an item, and another corridor le out towards the large stairway.
Another secret wall is also a shortcut, that can let you ambush a patrolling Carthus Skeleton on an upper level. From the main Bonfire, head down the stairs the Skeleton Boulder is going up and down, and look along the length of this lower level. There's stairs going up on the right, and at the far end - a corridor leading into some natural caves.
Just before this corridor is an archway that hides another stairs up to the upper levels, where a single skeleton patrols. The Demon Ruins of Lost Izalith in the Smouldering Lake are home to many hidden passages, requiring a keen eye and a lot of striking at walls to find them all. The the illusory wall of these can be found in the main hall of the Demon Ruins where two demon pyromancers are located.
Head away from them down a long corridor not the one with rats and note that it curves to the left sharply. You can reveal the fake wall where the path turns to find a room where a Black Knight is making short work of a Ghru. The next fake wall is found at the Old King's Antechamber Bonfire. In this same room, look at the opposite corner of the room for a wall tinted in red and not marred by any debris, and strike it to reveal a corridor leading back to main hall, and a left turn past many flaming slime creatures, before ending before an item in front of a pit.
Another of three fake walls awaits you on the path towards the ballista. Inside the main floor the illusory wall the ruins, take the path leading down the long corridor with a single rat, and duck into a larger room with three more rats.
Start hitting the walls to find a fake wall in the corner opposite your entrance, where you'll find the remains of a giant spider, as well as an item, with more in a lava-soaked chamber down some stairs. The other two fake walls are located in close proximity, in the long hall right before the underground room full of basilisks. After taking out the Giant Rat, and those that follow it, look along the left walls to find a fake one leading to a chest. However, the wall on the other side is also fake, leading to a lower ledge with yet another item.
The first of the illusory walls in Irithyll of the Boreal Valley isn't even a wall at all. When heading up the main road towards the cathedral, look for a balcony when the road curves right - a balcony that has a Crystal Lizard on it. You can hear some screaming down below, but to get down, the illusory wall actually have to hit part of the railing to the side of the balcony.
This reveals not a fake wall, but an invisible set of stairs leading down below to a Pontiff Knightand further down the source of the screaming - an Evangelist named Dorhys. The other illusion here is at the foot of the great cathedral, where a procession of Pontiff Knights and a Fire Witch begin patrolling, and another Knight lurks behind an altar. Looking left will see a path leading through an arch, while looking right le to a arch with a sealed wall. Strike the wall to reveal the illusion, and grab the body dangling off the path beyond.
The next illusory wall can be found down the stairs leading to the large river that the great bridge of Irithyll spans. Before ending the river, look right for a series of alcoves built into the stairs you just came down. The first of these alcoves ends with a fake wall, leading to a Crystal Lizard on the other side. On the route up to Anor Londo - the big cathedral in the sky, there are two very important illusory walls you don't want to miss. The first of which is located at the end of the large plaza full of mostly dead giants.
Enter the far tower and look to the left of the stairwell to strike the wall revealing a ladder down into a water reservoir that's the secret hiding place of the Aldrich Faithful Covenant. However, before you canand grab the items, you'll have to contend with two very angry Outrider Beasts like you fought on the Irithyll Bridge.
This can be extremely tough - so either try pulling one with a bow, or come back later when you're stronger if the the illusory wall gives you trouble. The second illusory wall is also an illusory statue. When you enter the large Tomb of the Darkmoon just before the path to the rotating tower to Anor Londo proper, note the giant statue of Gwyn. You can strike it to reveal the entrance to the tomb itself. What you find down here will differ greatly on what you've decided to to regarding becoming a Lord of Hollows with the help of Yuria of Londoror if you decided to save Anri of Astora from a lurking assassin in the Yorshka Church.
While not technically an illusory wall, there's a special area that deserves attention - right before the Bonfire for Anor Londo. If you look to the side of the revolving tower, you can spot a tower over a adjacent Yorshka Church. As it happens there's a route right over to the tower that requies a bit of faith - you need to walk out across the ledge from the platform either on the bottom part of the tower when its raised - or top part when its lowered An invisible platform spans the length leading to the tower where you can drop down and find a secret covenant.
The one illusory wall in the Consumed King's Garden is a big one, and may not be apparent. After defeating Oceiros, the Consumed Kingopen the large door past the Bonfire to enter the tomb full of dead Drakeblood Knights and a surviving serpent-man. Make sure to grab all the items and the chest on the large dais - but the true prize waits beyond the far wall.
Attack the large rocky wall beyond the chest to reveal a large fake wall - with passage leading into a secret optional area. The Untended Graves are full of many mysteries in their own right - but also contain one secret room. In the Alternate Firelink Shrineexplore the area where Andre would normally be, then take a right to head down the path leading to where Irina of Carim normally stays once rescued.
Except the corridor seems to stop short. You can strike the wall to reveal the rest of the corridor, and an item where she would normally be sitting. The Grand Archives has a lot of secret twists and turns, and also one fake wall.
When your chasing down the Crystal Sage twin that teleports down to a bridge, you'll have to give chase by running along a platform on the left that goes past several booby-trapped books on the ground, leading to a ladder and a balcony you can jump down. Before jumping down, look left along the wall to find a familiar arch-shaped part of the wall, and strike it to reveal the fake wall. Inside is an Outrider Knight who can pack quite a punch - but the items he guards and drops are well worth it.
